Artist Profile: Valerie Walkup Benson
Valerie is a native of Norman, Oklahoma and considers herself an explorer and student of life. Valerie began her pursuit in art as a hobbyist quilter, painter and pyrographer. In 2022 her younger sister, Eileigh, encouraged her to broaden her mediums and Valerie began studying the art of acrylic paint pouring and alcohol painting. Eileigh passed away in July of 2024 and Valerie continues to passionately pursue the two mediums, partly in honor of her sister's memory. Valerie loves to read and watch science documentaries and draws her inspiration from Nature, the Universe and childhood memories. These days you can find Valerie living her best life in Texas with her husband Ken, talented granddaughters and their rescue dogs Nutmeg and Lady.
